This is the third library we placed. It was kind of big project because, well, it was BIG. Sgt. Felty needed more than just a library. Their need was to store things and entertain children who come with parents who are seeking help and stressed out. He needed something that would hold their brochures, toys for kids and books. It had to be “approachable” and functional. This is painted in primary colors. On the side that faces the door, there is a chalk board that the officers can write messages on or children can draw and erase. The other side features a white board which is magnetized and below it is a wooden rack of letters/pictures that spin. The front had double doors at the bottom. Inside we placed plastic magazine racks to hold the police brochures. We added durable board books, books with wheels, and books that short stories or facts. We also added a stack of activity books and boxes of crayons. Letters for the magnetic board and crayons are stored in the yellow “lunch box” on top of the library. The back of the library features a huge “WELCOME” sign with a friend police officer and little dog. I used actual photos of the Allen Police Department uniform and badge to try to get it to look as good as possible.
